I’ve been MIA

First off Happy New Years! It is so crazy that 2018 is already here.

Happy New Years! 2018!!

I know recently I haven’t been posting as much because so much in my life has been going on and now I want to share a little of what it all was. I could literally say everything but then this post would look to be about 10 billion words long because THAT much has happened. Work, family in town, sick, moving, are a couple of the things that have been keeping me so preoccupied.

Being in the Military full time makes time management essential. Then imagine working full time and having overtime every day as well. That’s kind of what happened to me for a little over a month. Working full time plus overtime gives no proper time to handle all the other responsibilities in life that need to be taken care of.

Also I recently just got the opportunity to spend time with my family as they traveled through Arkansas and Colorado for a skiing vacation. I’ve missed them a lot and was happy to get to spend time with them, even though the majority of the time I was sick. We spent most of our time catching up in the hotel room laughing and joking around. To end the vacation we went to a restaurant that I have featured on this blog before, Papitos.

I’ve been so sick lately. I was in the ER twice within the same week. Yeah, I’ve been feeling that bad. I was recovering from virus-like symptoms and then hypothermia-like symptoms and my body were so under the weather all the while I continued a normal work schedule. I also didn’t want to contaminate my friends so I had to wear this all the time, plus it helps with all the wind on my face.

In the process of moving. Stefan and I have recently left the dorm life on base and are living in a house for a month and a half before we move into our apartment. Since we have been living here temporarily it is as if we are living out of suitcases and boxes because there is no need to unpack everything for such a short duration of time.

Also big news! I got married! I will do a Questions and Answer Post so that you get to meet my husband and get to know him a little better.

So much has changed over what seems like a short timespan and sometimes it seems as if so many unpleasant occurrences happen back to back but I will say that the past month there are also some good things that happened.

Tell me about a time when life got so frustrating and when it seemed to finally be passing over you realized a few good things may have happened at the same time!

Girls Who Code Post 2

This week in the Girls Who Code meeting we started working towards developing our Computer Science Impact Project. The students this year expressed that they would like to create a mystery game. A lot of my students from grades 6-8th grade. They expressed how they felt creating this game would show other kids in their school that coding can be fun and how even though they are young they can create something awesome to share with others.

To get this project started we planned what we wanted the end result to look like in the game. This was to give vision and creativity to the possibility of what we could come up with. It also helps me as the facilitator decide what platform might be the best to use based on the needs of the game. Because of this, I decided that GameMaker Studio 2 might be the best platform to create a mystery game with magic, potions, etc.

Teaching my students how to code one of the biggest challenges I am trying to avoid is the students feeling like the project is overwhelming. To dive right into coding the game I feel would not be the best decision. I decided to have them go through a walkthrough tutorial that we go through together where they create games that will give them skills to apply to the game they wish to create. The first game we are working on is replicating a shooter game. They created a sprite (or character) that can shoot out at enemies.

By creating this game students have learned how to create movement. They are learning to debug their code, find errors in their code. They are enjoying the process of building a game and I am proud of them for it.

Volunteer Project: Girls Who Code

Girls Who Code is a non profit organization that hopes to bridge the gap in the lack of women that have computer science degrees. The website is very informative in the fact that they list a lot of facts and statistics about how successful the program is.

There are two parts to the program; one you can participate in the school club or secondly, the summer immersion program. I participated in the Summer Immersion program and it was AMAZING. I learned so many things about how computers work and how there are soooooooo many jobs that are computer related. The Girls Who Code program WAS NOT all about forcing girls into computer science. It was about bringing awareness to what computer science actually is. So many people think “omg thats about sitting at home in your mom’s basement hacking the world for hours all lonesome like”, but its really not. Computer Science coding has so much more to it. With this new segment on my blog I hope to share my experience and also bring awareness to computer science as well.

This year I have decided to start a GWC Club as an GWC Alumni. I feel it is the best way to give back to all that GWC has done for me. With that said while I live in Arkansas, I will be creating a GWC Club on the Air Force base I work at for a year and blogging the whole experience so look forward to it!

Birthday time!

If you didn’t know my birthday just recently passed.  I chose to have it at Buffalo Wild Wings. I invited some of my new friends I met from the Mary Kay party and some older friends that I’ve known since I’ve been in Arkansas. It was fun and everyone had a good time. Surprisingly my boyfriend Stefan also made it back in time from his TDY in Florida for my birthday get together. That was pretty cool because he was pretty sure he was going to have to miss it and he wasn’t happy about that. So, all in all, I had a good birthday!

Also, I got some unexpected gifts from Liz, Simpson, Yadira, Stefan, and my mother! Yay! I got gift cards to go shopping and eating two of my favorite things lol and here are pictures of more gifts I got from Liz. I like how sometimes when I get gifts my face always looks like “what is this?”. But I appreciated all of them!

From Yadira, I got a makeup pallet which arrived in my mailbox. She knows I am into makeup and like to play around in it and see if I can one day get better at it lol.

From my mother, I got an Alexa echo dot which also came straight to my mailbox. I love getting things in the mail. Alexa is funny.

From Stefan I got my dinner paid for like the gentleman he is, and he surprised me by buying me an $800 camera so I can learn to take better pictures and videos for my blog and our soon to come vlogging adventures.

I am thankful for everyone coming out to my birthday dinner and all the gifts I received !!! Thank Yall for a great birthday!!!

Comment below what you are planning to do for your next birthday!

Staying Busy in Arkansas

Lately, I have been trying to go out more. I went out to treat myself by getting my nails done at Nails Perfect. I just randomly decided that I wanted to do something for myself and this is what I chose so it was a Tuesday or Wednesday night and I drove down to it. The owner was very welcoming and the place itself was very clean and pretty so already I was enjoying my experience and I hadn’t even sat down yet. Since I am in the military I can no longer get like a lavender purple or try out different colors. Nail colors have to be natural, “nude”, colors or french manicure. I decided to go with a french manicure. The French manicure always looks simple yet professional and you can’t go wrong. I was even offered a free gift I believe because we are rolling into the holiday season which was really sweet of the owner. It is a cuticle scrub that smells really good. When you get gifts you have to come back lol so I will definitely be back there soon.

Also if you ever want to check them out here is their facebook page which will provide you with their location and hours: Nails Perfect

I also decided to go to a meet and greet event that was on base for the Airman. It was a fun experience met a couple young ladies that I found to be pretty nice. One of the girls is trying to start up her own side gig with Mary Kay so we did a Mary Kay party which was fun and included a lot of laughing.

Then for the past two weeks, I have been going to football games to watch my squadron kick some butt! We won our game today and I believe we won last time too. My friend Simpson is actually playing on the team while Liz (remember her from Papito’s post) and I watched and supported. It was a bit cold while we were out there we both got goosebumps. Lucky for me she brought out some popcorn and this coconut flake snack that was good.

Some things I am looking forward to are going to a pumpkin patch and dressing up as a zombie to advertise for some haunted houses and haunted trails so look forward to seeing some posts about those soon!

Comment below if there are any events you are looking forward to!

He left me </3

I’m sorry I haven’t posted lately. Life has gotten a little stressful. I mean, what do you do when someone you love leaves you? No, he did not leave me exactly, he had to go on an emergency TDY. He called me that Friday morning, the morning they told him that within 72 hours he will be sent away to help with some of the world’s natural disasters. He told me how he just found out some news and his supervision said he will be gone for about two or three days, currently, now it’s going on two weeks…

I guess this is just my way of saying I have a newfound appreciation for the time and how important it is and for technology for being the tools I can use to keep contact with him. I also thank God and the people who reached out to me at church who keep him in our prayers.

He has always had this inner passion to be a hero. For him, this was his calling but was it at the wrong time? I did not want him to go. I know it is not the end of the world but some days it feels like it. I’m not going to lie sometimes I cried. Some nights its so bad I cry myself to sleep. I have been trying to keep busy, get involved in my community and such, but it’s hard. And I don’t think it will get any easier.

working out or hanging out

I remember back when I was in high school when my parents had the LA Fitness Gym subscription. I would have these phases where I was like I have to try this class and that one and too that one too. I used to try the hip-hop classes because I can’t dance. I would go to the cycling class because my father went. I would try the yoga class so I can get some inner strength and calm my mind.

Point is I think I am always going through these phases of trying out classes and workout routines. This past week I went to the library and picked up this yoga CD that had morning, afternoon, and nighttime routines. I went ahead and tried it out with Stefan one morning straight out of bed and this is what it looked like:

Let’s get Artsy !

Feeling a little artsy?  I decided to paint with my boyfriend recently. Whenever your feeling creative or need something to preoccupy yourself try painting! We did it while our soup cooked, that way we could still stir it every few minutes without having to look into the deep hot soup that we know we can’t taste or we will burn our tongue off. (Too much?…okay)

To get this painting project going we gathered a couple things: paint brushes, a plastic cup to wash out the paint brushes, water color paint, water color paper, and our imagination.

Here is a picture of his painting on the top.

Here is a picture of my painting on the bottom.

All in all we had fun and will be painting at least twice a month together, everyone should try it. It is fun, relaxing, distracting, and calming. Also feel free to post your masterpieces on the fridge too.

Travelers Game

I went to my first baseball game! I was volunteered to help out at the local baseball game in the downtown area. I worked the concession stand helping customers order hot dogs, BBQ nachos, soda’s, etc to enjoy the game. I got to work along my shop members as well. Even though I did not see much of the game I still had fun and enjoyed the fireworks later that night! I also walked away with a neat souvenir cup.

Comment below some of your favorite activities or events to go to! Hopefully next time I will actually order a hot dog and get to enjoy the game too!

Habitat For Humanity

Volunteering is something that everyone should take a chance to do at least once. You might find that you really enjoy helping others and one day can start a non-profit organization. Some of you might find that uhhhh its not as fun as you thought but then I would just suggest trying out a different volunteer opportunity. Volunteering is honestly as fun as you make it. I would also suggest inviting your boyfriend or girlfriend and other friends because it helps the time pass by faster if the volunteer activity is requires physical labor.

The last volunteer opportunity Stefan and I took advantage of was August 1 2017 from 0800 to 1100 we were apart of the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store! You can see pictures on my Instagram account linked in the about me page or just view the pictures below!

The way that Habitat for Humanity works is that the houses they build are 100% from donations. The employees are paid through the efforts of the Re-Store which is basically like a thrift store items are donated and then sold to the public to pay the salaries of the employees so that houses can still be built for those who can’t afford one.
